Workshops
Heading 2
All our workshops will (scientifically proven), help reduce levels of the stress hormone ‘cortisol’ that you have in your body… so good mentally and physically. Why wait any longer?
Basic equipment and materials will be available for you to use but feel free to bring your own kit.
Many of our workshops are free but please consider a gift of £5 or whatever you can afford to support us in our aim at Artish to help improve people's well being and reduce isolation in older and younger people.
Colour & Pattern
A colour wheel is a key component for artists and designers to develop their artwork. If you want to know which colours work well together and how colours can be created, a colour wheel is a great and effective tool. Our ‘Colour & Pattern’ colour wheel will show how primary (red, blue and yellow), secondary (orange, purple and green), and tertiary colours (rose, violet etc.) relate to each other. In this workshop we will start with colour basics, using watercolour paint as our ‘experiment mixer’ to create a beautiful, segmented, circle of colours. Once your wheel is dry and you’ve had a cuppa, you will personalise your artwork by adding additional patterns to ‘jazz-it-up’! Whether you want to figure out which colour to paint your living room or simply for a rainbow-flavoured celebration, this 2-hour class will have something for you.
Pen & Ink
Ink is a historic writing and drawing medium. In these sessions we will explore the ways ink can be used to make amazing marks and bold, striking designs.
During these workshops we will be creating in glorious black and white, and celebrating its classic beauty, contrast and mood. You will use pens and brushes but also natural objects like twigs, shells and leaves to make marks.
You will be very surprised at what you can achieve and all abilities are welcome to come and experiment with ink! Come along to this friendly space to relax, enjoy and be creative.
Still Life Drawing
Still-life drawing focuses on objects that don't move or are inanimate. These often consist of household objects such as vases, glasses, bowls, vegetables, flowers, or fruits. The aim is to learn how to create three-dimensional forms using shading methods and light. You can use almost anything for a still life drawing but something that will make your scene look interesting is lighting and shadows. Still life drawing can be realistic or abstract and you can use any medium you like. This workshop is suitable for all, from beginners to artists at any stage of their life.
Using the grid method
Learn how to use the grid method. Grid drawing is a technique that will help improve your accuracy. It involves placing a grid over your reference photo and onto your paper or canvas. The grid provides you with reference points and allows you to break the reference down into more manageable segments. You can use the grid drawing method to meticulously copy the reference photo segment by segment or you can use the grid to merely help you with the initial drawing.
Zentangle
Zentangle is an easy way to create beautiful images from repetitive patterns. It is fun, relaxing and can help increase focus and creativity. Zentangling is great for beginners and all artists at any stage of their life. It can help to give you a feeling of satisfaction and increase your sense of personal well-being. Zentangle art is unplanned art where you focus on each stroke and don't worry about the result. You'll be surprised at how good your art will look. All levels of artist ability are welcome and if you have never been to an art workshop before, be assured this is a friendly and relaxing space.
Portraiture
Before we had photography, the only way to record someone's appearance was through painting, sculpture, or drawn portrait. Portraits have been used to show the many different qualities of the sitter. There are an underlying set of rules that can be followed when drawing an anatomically correct human face. These simple proportion principles can be learned relatively quickly and applied instantly in practice. Come and join me to look at those basic fundamental rules and start your own portrait drawing.
Perspective
Perspective drawing is used to represent a three-dimensional scene in a two-dimensional medium, like paper. In linear perspective objects appear smaller as they get further away from you. On this workshop you will learn the rules of drawing in perspective. It's easy when you know how!
Mixed Media
Mixed media is a type of artwork that mixes different media or materials into one piece. You will be working with wet & dry media which is when wet media (such as watercolour, inks) is combined with dry media (fine liner, graphite, crayon). For example you could layer an ink drawing on top of a watercolour background painting. Come and join us. You are welcome to bring your own artwork to work on. Booking is essential.
